Who makes EventSlide

I’m Pierre, a developer who has loved his craft for more than ten years.

I first wrote EventSlide for my own wedding: I wanted our guests to send their photos and watch them arrive on the big screen during the evening. The wall was a hit, so I decided to take the project further and share it.

Today I maintain it as a volunteer. There is no company behind it, no sales team, no advertising.

Why this project

To share the photos of a party, most tools ask that your guests install an app, or that you hand your photos to a company you do not know. EventSlide was made to avoid both.

  • Your photos first

GPS position and device information are removed from every photo on arrival. A phone records where it is standing, and that is often somebody’s home.

  • Nothing to install

Your guests scan a QR code and send their photos from their browser. No account, no app, no email.

  • You keep the choice

The safest place for your photos is your own installation of EventSlide. For those who cannot host it, a hosted instance exists.

Our commitments

  • No advertising

Not on this site, not on your party’s wall.

  • No resale

    Your photos are never resold.

  • Hosted in France

The photos of the hosted instance are with OVHcloud, in France.

  • Location erased

GPS position and device identifiers are removed when each photo arrives.

The hosted instance, frankly

For those who cannot host EventSlide, the maintainer runs an instance of the same software, unmodified.

  • Free

Donations are planned, not open yet: they will buy nothing, the service is the same for everyone.

  • By invitation

You get in by requesting access, never through open sign-up.

  • No contract, no availability guarantee

It is a favour, not a product for sale. The wall also depends on the venue’s internet connection.

A promise, not a padlock

The application never shows your photos to the person who runs the instance. But that person has, technically, access to the machine, and so to the files. They commit not to use it: it is a commitment, not a lock. If you want a lock, host EventSlide yourself.

Free software

EventSlide is free software under the AGPL-3.0 licence: you can read its code, change it and pass it on. It also means you are not locked in: a copy installed at home keeps running, whatever happens to the project.

The licence in detail and how to install it at home are on the the Self-hosting page. The code is on the github.com/Irony42/EventSlide.

How to support the project

A project made by one volunteer moves forward with the help of the people who use it. Here are four ways to give it, from the simplest to the most useful.

  • Donate

Donations will be received through Open Collective. A donation unlocks nothing: the service is the same for everyone.

    Soon

  • Contribute on GitHub

Star the repository, report a problem, propose a change. It all happens on the repository.

    Open the repository

  • Spread the word

To someone planning a wedding, to an association, to the friend who owns a projector. Word of mouth is our only advertising.

  • Proofread a translation

The app exists in French, English, German, Spanish and Italian. The German, Spanish and Italian have not yet been read over by a native speaker. If that is you, write to us.
